Rice University in Houston, Texas, will now be awarding students with a Certificate in Engineering Leadership for completing a specific program offered through the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership.
The Rice Center for Engineering Leadership is the first of its kind in the state of Texas. The certificate will be awarded to students who complete in internship, 10 credit hours of required courses and labs, a portfolio and final presentation. Rice’s faculty officially adopted the program this fall.
The program first began offering course in 2009 and currently more than 100 students are enrolled in the course this semester.
Kaz Karwowski, the executive director of the center, commented on the goals of the program:
We want to equip our Rice engineers with leadership skills, communication skills and all the know-how they need to thrive.
Rice University was named the best college in Texas by College Factual and ranked among the best universities in the world by U.S. News & World Report. Forbes also listed the school as one of the top schools to work for in 2014. Rice University was also the only Texas school to make the U.S. News & Report’s 2015 Best Colleges national universities list. DesignIntelligence and Design Futures Council also ranked the school among the top architecture programs in the county.
